340.0. "EASE V5.3 layered product list." by CURRNT::RUSSELL (I should have got a Duracell!!) Mon May 21 1990 16:36

Here is the EASE V5.3 layered product list; I've been asked to put
it in here to make it generally available.

Appendix A Software for the July/August 1990 Migration

A.1 Corporate Layered Products

The following list is the list of Layered Products approved for the Migration
Period begining July/August 1990. A star (*) denotes a change in version since
the last migration. Whether or not the Prroduct is pre-installed in the EASE
distribution is also indicated.

The Message Router products whose versions are not contained below are
controlled by the Networks and Telecomms organization represented by Gariel
Barta @GEO.

The following list is the list of tools also pre-installed in the EASE platform
for the Migration Period begining July/August 1990. Products not in this table
that are required by a particular site will need to be planned for seperately.

     A.2 Products Discontinued in EASE

For business and contractual reasons, third party products have been removed
from the EASE kit for this and future migrations. Listed below is the approved
versions for use during the migration window, but they will have to be sourced
and installed seperately from the EASE environment.

Peter,

Will these be the products installed on the 3100 clusters (Eg sooty) or will
we be able to have newer products such as pascal V4.

The LAVc's are already at V5.3 and several of the layered products
have been updated to later (non-standard) versions.

You may have gathered that they are not standard EASE.

340.3Why do you want it?CURRNT::RUSSELLI should have got a Duracell!!Tue May 22 1990 15:1832
The basic principle we follow for any layered product is

    (1) is it supported
    (2) do we need it
    (3) does EASE affect it

So, for the main clusters, they will always be in line with EASE,
    and the next "expected" version.

The LAVC boot nodes are different; they will run the versions and
tools that make sense to drive the workstations.

Having said that, what use is PASCAL V4.0 to you? You can't use
it (yet) in serious development, so... gimme a good reason first.
Come and see me if you prefer; I'm at SBP tomorrow..

Having said the above, I will be building a "FUTURS LAVC Boot node"
as soon as I get time, but it will be early July at best, due to
    external commitments.

This will run latest versions of VMS, field test versions of tools,
early versions of new layered products, (e.g. VMS V5.4, OSF stuff,
    DECplan, DECdesign, DECpresent, etc, etc...)

You'll be able to choose whether you want to boot off this cluster,
but be prepared to accept a reduced level of service, as it will
    be running pre-production software!

More details on this nearer the time, so no volunteers yet, please!

    Peter.
