314.0. "Printers and Re-Cycled paper" by SHAPES::ALFORDJ (Ice a speciality) Tue Jan 30 1990 12:15

This notice is concerned with the GREEN packaged re-cycled paper that
is currently available around the building.

Please do not under any circumstances use this paper in the LPS40
printers. Firstly because it is too thin to maintain it's flatness
through the rollers and jams the machine. Secondly because of the
jamming there is a fire risk.

This paper can be used in the LN03 printers, but *ONLY* if it is loaded
    correctly. It is one-sided paper.

It must be loaded with the arrow on the packaging pointing downwards.
For this to be so, the package should be opened logically "upside-down"
with the smooth, unbroken side of the packaging upwards, the paper
extracted and put in the hopper without turning it over.

    Thankyou for your co-operation.

What harm will come to the laser printer if the paper is incorrectly
   loaded?

I don't know this is the case here, but some copier paper has
a "smooth" side, and some a rough side. There is also the natural
paper curl to be taken into account.

The Xerox paper has two good sides, so it doesn't usually matter
too much for LPS's, but LN03's have a very tight end on the paper as it
prints. I'm sure we've all seen the output paper of LN03's spraying
all over the plac,; it's often due to "upside down' paper.

Maybe the recycled paper is only "finished" on one side.

But there again, does anyone have the full specs for the recycled
    paper? I know I don't....

    Peter.

BTW - it's very difficult to set fire to a laser printer; so don't
    start worrying too much!

No *harm* will come to the printer...

I can't say the same for the Super-user's irritation levels though :-)

If the paper is put in upside down, it curls upwards at the edges, this
results in the paper being spewed out all over the floor.

I'm not, it's just that facilities are a bit worried about paper
sitting between very hot rollers etc...

There is no obvious weight number on the re-cycled paper, but I suspect
that it is 66g/m2 instead of 80g/m2.
