as we won't be hanging vaxstations off the ADG clusters, regardless, due
to ethernet loading, etc within the building.

I guess DEcwindows will be supported out of EASE, as this feature has been
requested by several subs, though, so it probably won't be tailored
off the EASE kits.

Apart from the fact that we are striving to be an exemplar account, and
therefore using some of the more up-to-date technology, especially in the
end-user space, we also need DECwindows so we can run TIMA - a European ADG
supported product.

I think you will find that every country requested 5.3 with DECwindows V2.

I am very pleased that the decision to go to 5.2 was changed, as we can now
be more credible when we talk to the large customer accounts about the way we
manage our environments and use our technology to run the business.

311.10SOFTWARE UPDATES POSSIBLE?CRATE::SADLERThu Feb 01 1990 18:3617
Peter,

Some thoughts:

Document 1.1 has problems with figures/postscript format. Currnt has already
been upgraded to 1.2 any possibility of installing this version?

LSE 2.2 apparently is no longer supported as we have heard in several places
already in this file

ADGDOC. Can we have the most latest version (2.1?) as this has the more
uptodate templates (ie: accepted ADG Standards) for the Design and hopefully
Functional specs.

Asking in anticipation!

Gail
311.11Ticky one, this...HEWIE::RUSSELLThis is the dawning of the age of...Mon Feb 05 1990 08:2317
Gail, you've asked awkward questions...

Document V1,1 is the "correct" version according to the EASE V5.3 manual
We deliberatly have different versions on some of the clusters, for exactly
the problem you describe - and so I guess we will continue to have
different versions, as it allows the people who need V1.1 to use it, while
still letting people use V1.2 who need that.

LSE V2.2 is the "correct" version; I have no plans to request a change
in this for the time being.

ADGDOC isn't specified in EASE, so if you (or anyone else) can let me
know about any new version, I'll get it installed somewhere.

So, one out of three isn't really too bad...

311.12FUTURS details...HEWIE::RUSSELLI should have got a Duracell!!Mon Feb 05 1990 16:3028
As you all know(!), FUTURS is being upgraded to VMS V5.3 this weekend.

To ease any migration problems, we will be upgrading only some of
the layered products this weekend. So, the upgrade will be for the
following:

VMS V5.3 (including DECwindows)
ACMS V3.1
COBOL V4.2
DATA Distributor V2.0-1
FMS V2.4
FORTRAN V5.3
LSE V2.3
SPM V3.3
VAX C V3.0
VTX V4.0

Please note the following:-
(1) RDB and DBMS will not be upgraded this weekend; they will follow later,
when we have more details of any re-loads necessary.
(2) We will not be hanging any workstations of FUTURS, even though DW is
    being installed.
(3) LSE V2.3 is being installed due to user demand. (See, we do listen!!)

As always, please contact me if you have any questions or concerns with any
of this.

Mark, it doesn't exist, at least as far as Europe is concerned.

So LSE V2.3 it is....

I understand that SHAPES et al aren't running BEV, and that's why we appear
to be up to date...

BEV is still on V2.2, I guess due to the extra work involved in "europeanising"
it.

>BEV is still on V2.2, I guess due to the extra work involved in "europeanising"

I beleive this is a missprint, and I am following it up. The advantage of
ALL-IN-1 2.3 is that it doesn't need Europeanising.

2.2 had to have major changes to allow for such things as accute accents,
circimflexes etc (8-bit not 7-bit), that's why American and British were one
version, with the rest of Europe on another.

ALL-IN-1 2.3 has major differences over 2.2, one being that there is now a
core, and the languages are added modules, eg. American,English,German......
Most of Europe is now running ALL-IN-1 2.3

I have followed this up, and BEV 2.2 has been removed from the list. The only
version of ALL-IN-1 on the list now is 2.3.

at this stage, we will *not* be upgrading to RDB V3.1, as the
EASE team have confirmed that EASE V5.3 will stay with RDB V3.0B.
