310.0. "VWSLAT problems..." by CURRNT::DAVIES (Close, but no banana.) Mon Jan 15 1990 10:54

    As most people with workstations are already aware there are problems
    with the VWSLAT software at the moment.

    My understanding of the current situation is that somewhere on the
    network something is sending out rogue messages on a regular basis.
    This is causing VWSLAT to go belly-up. (VWSLAT is not a supported
    product) IS networking are aware of the problem and are trying to
    trace the source of the messages - this may take a long time...

    Doing SET HOST ...... does not suffer the same problem because the
    software is somewhat more robust and is able to throw away the rogue
    messages as they arrive.

    Sorry for all the problems this is causing...

310.1Set Host....CURRNT::OTTENNetwork Partner ComatoseMon Jan 15 1990 12:169
    Sethost doesn't seem to be too reliable, either.. Many's the time
    I have got "Control returned to node ADAISY" for no apparrant reason...

    Admittedly, the machine I'm setting host onto gets *SO SLOW*
    beforehand...

    Maybe it's running out of SRP's......

    Also, note that the locl ethernet is now very busy, and that doesn't
    help the situation.

    It's being addressed by local networks, and will be fixed before the
    next bunch of pvaxes arrive.

    Meanwhile, Dave, I'd suggest your SETHOST problem is due to the machie
    at the other end - I'm having no prpblems from Evry!

    (except for my typing, that is!!)

	I have only had problems using set host to HEAD. Anyone got any other
clues/information that may help IS Networks trace the fault?

310.6Good NewsCURRNT::DAVIESClose, but no banana.Mon Jan 29 1990 08:5810
    VWSLAT seems to have been working without any problems again now
    for a few days. Appears that a machine which was recently added
    to the network in the dark depths of 'B' Block was sending out
    Multi-Cast messages - this has now been fixed(?)

    Can those of you who use VWSLAT please try it again. If you still
    have problems can you let me know ASAP.
