269.0. "IMPORTANT - ROLLING BACK SYSUAF, ETC" by HEWIE::RUSSELL (One man's floor is another's ceiling.) Thu Aug 10 1989 16:47
As some of you know, we've had a problem with some automated "tidy up"
software that tracks unused, expired accounts, and copies the data
out, and then deletes the accounts.
This has unfortunately affected several "server" accounts.
To allow a speedy recovery, we will be rolling back to the backup copies
of SYSAUF that were taken yesterday morning (Wednesday). We will also
be updating the ACL's, rights identifiers and so an to the state as at
yesterday morning.
This recovery will take place at 17:30 today (Thursday).
This means that any changes made to the SYSUAF since yesterday morning
need to be re-done. This includes any password changes made, and new
accounts created. Also rightlists, ACLS, etc.
This mainly affects the FUTURS cluster, but also CURRNT. PASTIT was not
affected.
We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused, and steps have already
been taken to ensure it doesn't happen again.
As a reminder; if your project uses accounts that are not "personal":,
and don't get logged into, please ensure the mail from those accounts
is forwarded to a real user account. You may also wish to consider
something similar for these accounts on production systems.
Please contact me, or one of the other consultants, if you need more
details.
Peter (x 4417).
