| Chris,
I think you may have a "newer" keyboard than the VT220 understands.
What is the model number of the VT220? Is it one of the "later" ones
(i.e. VT220-D or -E or -F)
Does the keyboard have the plastic "flip over" bit on top? If it doesn't
find a VT3xx with the old keyboard and swap them.
Peter.

I think its older. The newer terminals ( VT3xx etc ) have the
"(" & ")" above the 9 & 0, which is what the terminal thinks it wants.
Incidentally, both the keyboard and the terminal are 'new'. i.e.
clean, shiny etc.

Its was a VT220-F2, but there is a little sticker saying its been
converted to an -F3
Whats the difference between a F2 and F3

No, it doesn't, however it has the same key layout as the ones that
do.
What would the guy with the VT3xx think of that ??
Any more ideas??

259.4 | Amazing discovery... | CRATE::BARKER | My Yacht runs on Lead-Free wind | Tue Jul 25 1989 16:55 | 32 |
| Whilst trying to sort this out, I discovered the following.
If you take an old VT2xx, with the keyboard set to 'English' and run
your finger along the numbers, with the shift key down, you get this
!"$%&'()=
If you then change it to 'North American' you get
!@#$%^&*()
As you can see, completely different.
If you do this to my 'confused' VT220, or any VT3xx you get this for
'English'
!@$%^&*()
Changing it to 'North American' gives the same, except with a #
instead of the .
Fascinating eh?
The keyboard I have conforms with the 'English' option on the 'Old'
VT220, and the terminal software ( V2.3 ) conforms with either of
the 'New' options.
Does that help, or make it more confusing ?
Chris.

All the latest batch of VT220's ( there are quite a lot of these
around the merchandising area ) behave in the same way.
They are all model E2 or F2, converted to E3 or F3.
The difference is, they all have matching keyboards.

| I came round to see you, but you weren't about.
However, I did spot the VT340 on your desk......
Peter!
