251.0. "MAIL in command procedures in batch under V5" by CURRNT::DAW (VTX does it with pages !!) Fri Jun 16 1989 13:11

    Hi all,

well so much for information sharing !

I've spent the last few weeks having severe problems sending mail
via distribution lists under V5, The problem was that if anyone at
all received the mail, it was only the first person in the list
that got it. This happened when I used a command procedure to send
the mail (which was submitted in batch).

The solution is extremely simple, and having had the problem sorted
out by IS for me, I find that several other people from other
groups new of the problem and the solution.

Basically under V5, distibution lists should be enclosed in quotes:
    "@DIST.DIS"

    Anyway, Do have fun

Have fun sending your mails to distibution lists in batch, in future,
    I know I will.

    Regards,

    Rob

Distribution lists DON'T work and are NOT supported (never have),
use them under pain of not sending mail.

    Press KP7 for more info.

Completely untrue! Distribution lists have been a documented feature of
MAIL since 3.7 (and probably a lot longer). Are you saying that DEC are
supplying and documenting facilities which it has no intention to support,
without bothering to tell the customers about it?

If you use distribution lists when setting a forwarding address then you will
get problems, but this feature was never documented, and V5.* attempts to
trap it. Standard distribution lists, as mentioned in .0, work as documented
and ARE supported.

251.4A question for the consultants ??CHEST::BATEMANIf you can't stand the heat ...Thu Jun 07 1990 13:567
Does anyone have experience of extracting data from MAIL, then formating
it into records as input into application software ??

Failing that .. any documentation, contacts or pointers ??

    Thanks.
