232.0. "DEV003 on CURRNT" by CURRNT::GREEN_K (Happiness is a signed timesheet) Fri Apr 28 1989 16:19

    In the last two weeks, I have phoned 4040 three or four times regarding
    disk DEV003 on the CURRNT cluster, which seems to be permanently
    short of space.

    Despite messages requesting the deletion of unwanted files and purging
    the disk by Ops, it is still getting worse. Over the last day or
    so, I don't think it has risen above 2500 free blocks, and is often
    at less that 1000.

    I am about to resort to splitting my work between my CURRNT and
    FUTURS accounts, which does not seem to be a very efficient use of
    my time or resources, but at the moment their is no other choice.

    Is anyone else having the same trouble, and is their nothing that
    can be done, especially when other disks have loads of space.

232.1Bigger disks on the way...HEWIE::RUSSELLBX Turbo drivers do it with woooosh!Tue May 02 1989 09:238
Keith, this isn't going to help you at the moment, but new (bigger) disks
are on order, and expected for delivery "real soon now".

They will provide a small increase in the free space on CURRNT, but as they
are RA90's, there wil be fewer physical drives than now, so the free space
will (hopefully) be more easily accessible to you.

232.2well it did some goodCURRNT::GREEN_KHappiness is a signed timesheetWed May 03 1989 11:5712
    Well putting this note in must have done some good because the disk
    has now got over 60,000 free blocks on it. Whoever was responsible,
    many thanks.

    However it does beg the question, is it just coincidence that despite
    calls to 4040, nothing happened until the situation was made more
    public in these notes ?.

    It would be interesting to know where all the free space came from.

re .2

Maybe you just pricked someone's consience about the disk space they
were tying up, and so released it that way?

Usually, the only thing that I.S. can do is just purge the entire disk,
but we all do that ourselves anyway, don't we.....

Or maybe the deault decnet account is on that disk, and that's been tidied
up?
