198.0. "Save a tree; save some time..." by YARD::RUSSELL (Why, oh, why, oh.... spells YOYO.) Thu Nov 17 1988 18:37

Here is how to get your LPS40 output twice as quickly, and
half the paper used in the process.....

There is an option called PARAMATER, which is used for controlling
whether you want PORTRAIT (the default), or LANDSCAPE, e.g.

    +---------+ +-----------------+
    : : : :
    : Portrait: : :
    : : : landscape :
    : : : :
    : : +-----------------+
    : :
    : :
    : :
    +---------+

OK? , now most people knew that.

    But.

and not a lot of people know this,

there is another paramater option called NUMBER_UP=x

    where x is a number between 2 and 16.

What it does is put x number ofpages on each physical sheet of paper,
in whatever mode you are using.

For example: NUMBER_UP=2 would (in portrait mode) give

    +----------------------+
    : : :
    : : :
    : : :
    : : :
    : : :
    : : :
    : : :
    : : :
    : : :
    +----------------------+

i.e. print two sheets of your output in A5 mode, on a single A4
    sheet.

In my opinion, NUMBER_UP=2 is easily legible, but the 4 and 8
options are dependant on the output.....

If you are printing dumps, or large reports, the 4 option may be
    acceptable.

Why not try it - you will be saving trees in the process!!!

    Peter.

    P.S. I apologise to those of you who already knew about his feature;
I am posting this 'cos I didn't, and I'm sure a lot of people don't!
