    The system time on FOOT is currently about 8 minutes slow!! Any
    chance of having it sorted out?

    Why not ring Jerry or Shaun, and get *action* rather than just
    placing thge moan here?

    Or even ring x 6060 and log it with IS Ops?

    Peter.

99.3Direct contact established (I think)FOOT::SMITH_IFast as a Mamba, Brave as a Lion!Tue Dec 08 1987 14:235

    Coz I've forwarded the notes direct to Jerry using mail. He does
    read that I presume!

    How about you fixing it then!!??

    I did try phoning Jerry, you know BT style, but no one could be
    bothered to answer.

99.6Is it contagious??RDGE43::BARKERUnder the sign of the Blue Shark.Mon Dec 14 1987 12:417
    This problem does not seem to be confined to VAX's.

    The downstairs coffee machine is also about 8 minutes slow

    ( Either that or someone had left 10 pounds 19p in the machine at
      10:27 this morning :-)  )

	Dear clockwatchers of East Cheam,

    		If an incorrect system time is causing you a problem
    i.e. causing inefficiency in the work that you do for Digital, then
    by all means phone system management/leave notes/mail me and I will
    do my best to solve your problem for you.

    		But a) a notes conference is the wrong place for your
    moans and b) there's llareggub I can do if I'm not in the building.

99.8I ain't no Dylan!FOOT::SMITH_IFast as a Mamba, Brave as a Lion!Mon Dec 14 1987 16:119

    Lay off Jerry, How was I to know you weren't in the building?????
    Also, whats wrong with putting an entry in the notesfile? If, as
    I did, I send you mail and you're not in, no one will see the problem
    and correct it, if on the other hand I post a note, ONE member of
    the system management team should see it, shouldn't they?

    Regards,
    Ian

    1) See note 99.2
    2) If the phone wasn't answered, then try again later or leave a
    message with Acre Road Reception (extension 23). System managers
    are (relatively) human - not automatons to be dictated to.
99.10Don't be so defensive, no one's criticisingFOOT::SMITH_IFast as a Mamba, Brave as a Lion!Tue Dec 15 1987 12:5717

    "System managers are (relatively) human" - With this I agree.

    "not automatons to be dictated to." - Who's dictating?

    WHY is this notesfile the wrong place to post problems? Its called
    the System Management notesfile after all, isn't an incorrect time
    a System Management problem? One further point I would like to
    make is that I posted the note describing the problem ONCE, I did
    not, and I could have done, get all uppity about the fact that it
    took a long time to sort the problem out once it had been reported!

    While I'm on, and this is bouond to cause a livid response...

    The CHEST is currently 4 minutes behind FOOT, system time that is!

That's a relief!
