95.0. "Problem Explanation Database" by RDGE28::SMITH_I (Fast as a Mamba, Brave as a Lion!) Thu Nov 26 1987 06:18
I'd like to suggest that this note be used to explain the reasons
why various machines are unavailable at various times. For example,
the whole of the ADG cluster was unavailable this morning, it would
be really nice to see an explanation of the problem posted as a
reply to this note.
This, to my mind, would have two benefits, firstly, a lot of us
'lowly' users out here who happen to have system management experience
may fell slightly less frustrated about not being able to look into
the problem, and secondly, the note could serve as a record of the
problems encountered by different machines, clusters etc. This
history may identify potential future problems, or, provide a fast
solution database if a problem re-occurs. This final point is
particularly relevant if the person who fixed the problem first
time is not around when it re-occurs.
