CLUSTER ALIAS ------------- Now that U43 and CHEST are clustered and (relatively) stable, there will shortly be a cluster alias for them - FUTURS. This could be construed as a comment indicative of paranoia, but is simply the closest approximation of FUTURE that is not already allocated on the network. FUTURS will have a node address of 41.702 DISC DRIVE CHANGES ------------------ The new RA81's on FUTURS mean that directories can be moved onto volumes classed as 'APPLICATION' , 'USER' , or 'SYSTEM'. So over the next few weeks files will be moved so that discs 0+1 contain USER directories, 5 contains APPLICATION directories and 14 contains SYSTEM directories. Drive 13 will be used for applications when the application environment supports bound volumes.

Jerry, The application environment already supports bound volumes, that is how disk$dev005 and disk$dev006 are set up on the current cluster. In fact, V1.1 of the Environment specifically removes the need to have bound volumes purely for space requirements. With V1.1, an Environment can be placed onto _any_ disk. The logical name APPLICATION$$P_DISK is no longer necessary. Ian. | |||||

re .0 For cluster alias, read LAT service alias. See 57.2 in this conference. steve |
