To whom it may concern, Does anyone know what sort of project environment we will be using? On VULCAN we are currently using the old PROJ$ environment as established back in the good old days by Ian Hays. In conjuction with this we are also using the UTIL$ areas for holding those useful little tools that we all use. However I would not be suprised if we are to use the new TOOLBOX approach ( See Ian Hays if you don't Know about this! ). If this is so has or will anyone decide who's tools are to be used where there is an overlap or duplication of functionality. And finally if the Project environment becomes a problem would it be feasable to run the cluster with several provect enviroments? Yours, Pete' Platt.

Steve Draper and I have established a new Application Environment, strongly based on the original on VULCAN but benefitting from lots of the new features of VMS V4 and from lots more experience. I strongly recommend that new projects investigate this environment (there are supporting tools to set it up and manage it) and use it if possible. See Steve or I for more details on this. By the way there is a conference on RDGE28 called APPLCIATION_ENVIRONMENT to discuss specifics. Ian |
