12.1 | Define VTX$server | RDGE21::MORRIS | | Mon May 19 1986 14:16 | 6 |
| Beacuse the VTX$SERVER logical isnt set-up system wide.
I cant remember the GVA server object number off-hand , but if you
look at the logical on VULCAN and define it on RDGE28 VTX will work.

12.2 | VTX Startup procedure | RDGE28::DRAPER | Steve Draper | Tue May 20 1986 10:23 | 7 |
| There is a startup file in sys$manager. I think it's called
VTXSTARTUP.COM
Why don't you incorporate that into systartup.com??

12.3 | VTX sort of working on U28 | RDGE28::TUNNICLIFFE | | Wed Jul 09 1986 12:48 | 4 |
| I have VTX working as best I can on U28 now. If there are any experts
around your help will be appreciated. All I have managed to do is
set up a logical which point to Geneva, so at least you can all
look at the Geneva Data.

12.4 | This is what you do... | RDGE28::HAYES | Ian Hayes, ext. 4992 | Wed Jul 09 1986 15:14 | 13 |
| Using VTX is very easy.
To look directly at another database, simply defined the logical
as follows:
DEFINE VTX$SERVER "GVAVTX::""243="""
All those quotes (") *are* necessary. You can replace GVAVTX with
any other node name which has a VTX database.
Once you have defined your logical, simply run the VTX prog by
entering:
MC VTXPAD

How come VTX works on RDGE00:: and not on RDGE28::
Don't both machines use the same startup ???

12.6 | Another frustrated VTX user | RDGE00::DAVIDSON | | Tue Apr 14 1987 17:22 | 9 |
| Iain,
I guess it's something to do with the fact that the network on U28
is currently dead. I now make a habit of connecting to RDGE00 instead
of ADG but this would seem to defeat the purpose of having these
beasties clustered! Try it and see!!

12.7 | VTX now working cluster-wide | RDGE00::DRAPER | Steve Draper | Thu Apr 16 1987 10:33 | 15 |
| re 5. & .6
The fact that VTX only worked on part of the cluster was due
to a variety of reasons - partially the way in which it was started,
and partially due to some of the network problems on RDGE28.
These should now be solved, and VTX should work correctly from
all parts of the cluster.
N.B. Do *not* understand this to mean that all of U28's network
problems have been solved: they haven't, but are currently being
worked on. However, there is sufficient of the network working
on U28 to satisfy the needs of VTX.

| The VTX "Computer Information" page is at least a year out of date.
Is there any chance of amending, or at least deleting, this information?

When the Text Retrieval Unit took over the A.D.G. VTX service after
they ripped STOPIT from out hearts, Steve Draper was asked whether
he wanted this option kept, his answer was obviously yes. This section
of the infobase is therefore under Steve's juristiction, and as
far as I know, there are no plans to update it.
As far as being out of date, the infobase pages date from at least
May 1987, so most are more than a year out of date.
If anyone has any suggestions for this section, perhaps they could
enter them here.
Some of the functionality of these pages, will be taken over when
INSECT V1.0, or V2.0 is released. This is location specific
information, and covers such data as an employee directory, group
information, organisation charts, and policies/procedures information.
Version 2.0 of Insect may cover such things as system configuration,
hardware on order, conference/meeting room bookings etc..
Another system which will exist is the Library System V1.0 which
will detail all Manuals etc.. in the ADG library.
Hope to have been of some help,
Rob
