			STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

CHRISTIAN is a conference for Digital employees to discuss and share the
application of the Bible as the Word of God - and the life of Jesus Christ,
the Saviour of the World - to everyday life, both practically and in theory.

                ______________________________________________________

				OUR HOPE

It is our hope that this conference be used as a source of:

	o encouragement
	o edification
	o challenge
	o fellowship
	o more!

for all who desire to know more about the God of the Bible who revealed
Himself and His nature to the People of Israel, and has manifested Himself
fully as our LORD and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

To share in "...the equipping of the holy ones for the work of service, to
the building up of the body of Christ..." - Ephesians 4:12 (NASV)

			THE BASIS OF CHRISTIAN

The basis of the Christian notes conference is that we hold the Bible to be
God-breathed and inerrant; the only infallible and authoritative Word of God.

"And so we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to
pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns
and the morning star arises in your hearts. But know this first of all,
that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, for
no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the
   Holy Spirit spoke from God."
						 1 Peter 1:19-21 (NASV)

"All Scripture is inspired by God (lit. God breathed) and is profitable for
teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that
the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work."

						2 Timothy 3:16,17 (NASV)

2.1Statement of FaithPAULKM::WEISSTo speak the Truth, you must first live itTue Apr 15 1997 10:1134
The belief that the Bible is the infallible Word of God is the founding basis
of our fellowship here, and based on the witness of the Scriptures we make the
following statement of faith. Though there are countless issues - many of them
very important - addressed in the Scriptures regarding life and faith, a
thorough understanding commends the following to be the bare essentials of a
saving faith:

				WE BELIEVE...

o In the truth that there is one God, eternally existent in three
persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit
				(Dt 6:4-5, Mat 28:19; 2 Cor 13:14)

o In the Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, and in His pre-existant life,
before all creation, as the only begotten Son of the Father.
				(Col 1:15-16, Jn 1:18)

o In Jesus' descent into human form for our sakes, and in His life on
earth, in all its richness and power, as described by the Scriptures.
				(Phil 2:6-11)

o In His vicarious and atoning death for us, and in His bodily
	resurrection.
				(1 Cor 15:12-20)

o In the reality that the only means of being cleansed from sin, the
only way of receiving eternal life with God, is through repentance
and faith in the atoning sacrifice and precious blood of Jesus Christ.
				(Ephesians 1:7)

"There is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven
that has been given among men, by which we must be saved."
                                                             Acts 4:12
2.2The Bible is the StandardPAULKM::WEISSTo speak the Truth, you must first live itTue Apr 15 1997 10:1347
Unfortunately, due to the public nature of this conferece, we have to make the
following reminder, and implement the following guidelines:

THE BIBLE, GOD'S WORD, IS THE STANDARD OF THIS CONFERENCE.

It is the authority to which all participation in this conference submits.
It is the measuring rod by which all ideas are measured.

This forum permits discussion on almost any subject, and opinions may
initially be expressed from any perspective. However, all entries and
opinions will then be held up for evaluation to the standard under which we
have gathered in this forum, the Bible. In the ensuing discussion, please
remember:

THE BIBLE, GOD'S WORD, IS THE STANDARD.

Any entries which:

o are derogatory towards the Bible

o deny the Bible's authority, validity, or inspiration by God

o attempt to promote any other source as comparable to or superseding
	  the Bible

o question the validity of using the Bible as the standard
	  of this conference

o repeatedly re-state an opinion which has been shown by prior
discussion to have no Biblical support

may be set hidden or deleted without prior notice to the author.

                ______________________________________________________

				BIBLE QUOTATIONS

As a courtesy, when quoting the Bible, please state not only the Book, Chapter
and Verse, but also the version from which the quote comes.

Acronyms are acceptable for the more common versions such as the KJV, RSV, NIV,
NASV, NEB, NWT. However, when a lesser known version is used, please cite the
name in full. e.g. JB Phillips Translation/Paraphrase

Quoting the Bible in this manner allows others to find the particular passage
quoted. It also helps reduce confusion.

2.3Conflict ResolutionPAULKM::WEISSTo speak the Truth, you must first live itTue Apr 15 1997 10:1421
Any forum for discussing spiritual matters will inevitably be a sensitive
place, where strongly contentious views will conflict. As moderators, we
endeavour to hold a balance. We desire to not only accomodate the many
flavours of Christians who participate, but also endeavor to make this a place
of favourable witness to many non-Christians, to whom we are on display, and a
place where non-Christians may come to see what the Bible and Jesus have to
say.

With that in mind, any notes that are personal in nature and have a negative
connotation may be deleted from this conference without prior notice.

If someone else enters a note which you find offensive, the procedure to
follow (using the guidance of Matthew 18) is:

o Contact the offender offline to seek resolution.

o If that fails, contact the moderators off-line for assistance.

Please do NOT seek to resolve these issues publically in the file. Attempts
to do so, even when well-intentioned, nearly always degenerate into a very
unedifying 'discussion.'
2.4Exclusion of the subject of HomosexualityPAULKM::WEISSTo speak the Truth, you must first live itTue Apr 15 1997 10:1517
In the past, the topic of homosexuality has produced an immense amount of
heated and fruitless discussion. That in itself would not be sufficient reason
to censor it, as other topics also create the same sort of heated discussion.

However, Digital has chosen to give homosexuals minority status as a group, and
the position of the Bible stands in opposition to the value Digital has chosen
to embrace on this issue.

Therefore, the decision has been made that we will not discuss the topic of
homosexuality in this notes conference at all, either pro or con. Postings
which even mention the subject will be hidden or deleted without prior notice.
Other conferences have no such restriction and you are free to debate this
issue there.

We have discussed this with the corporate Human Resources department, and
have received their endorsement to exclude discussion of this issue from
this conference.
2.5Moderators and ModeratingPAULKM::WEISSTo speak the Truth, you must first live itTue Apr 15 1997 10:1741
This file is moderated by a panel of volunteers. (See note 3.last for the
current moderator's panel) In all issues of moderating, please remember
that the moderators are real employees with real jobs to do, and that
moderating this file is done only in their spare time. Also remember that
the moderator's panel spans several time zones, so discussions among the
moderators sometimes take a while. Please be patient with us. :-)

In several places in the preceding notes is an indication that a note may
be deleted or hidden without prior notice. Here is the actual procedure
that we use:

o Outright deletion only occurs when a note is highly offensive and obviously
inappropriate for inclusion, and occurs only very rarely. The author is
informed that their note has been deleted and why. The other moderators are
informed by the moderator that deletes the note.

o If a note is not quite so offensive, the first moderator to see it
will hide it, and send mail to the author and to the other moderators,
explaing why the note has been hidden. The note the author receives may
just say "Your note has been hidden," in which case there will be no
follow-up. On some occasions, when the issues are less clear, the author
may receive notice that "Your note has been hidden pending discussion by the
moderators," in which case the moderators will get back to the author after
   discussion.

o If discussion was called for, the moderators will then discuss offline what
should be done about the note. As noted above, the panel spans several time
zones, and people are doing real work, so this can take a while. The author
will then be contacted with the resolution.

VERY IMPORTANT:

If your note is hidden or deleted and you disagree with the reasons given for
hiding and deleting it, the ONLY appropriate measure is to continue to contact
the moderators offline. Under no circumstances repost the note or start asking
questions in the file about why your notes are being hidden. Reposting of a
note that has been hidden or deleted by the moderators of any notesfile is
considered by the Human Resources department of this company to be an act
justifying disciplinary action.

Once resolution is reached, the decisions of the Moderators will be final.
