| I just finished "Love Life for Every Married Couple" by Dr. Ed Wheat.
I highly recommend it and believe it should be mandatory reading for any
couple or those engaged to be a couple. It is published by Zondervan
and should be available in any Christian bookstore.
What prompted me to read it is the discovery that the pastors at my
church give it to every couple that they counsel on marriage (including
pre-marital counseling). I now understand why they do and agree with
their actions.
Even if you have a good marriage you will get something out of it. If
you are having problems in a relationship, grab a copy ASAP.

The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment. Jedidiah Burrows. Banner of
Truth Trust. Written in the early 17th century.
Burrows discusses in extraordinary detail and with incredible Biblical
and human insight the subject of Christian contentment. Paul's
statement, "I have learned to be content in every situation" is the
thesis of the book.
A Passion for Faithfulness. J.I.Packer.
Packer, with his appealing manner intact, studies the book of
Nehemiah. Nehemiah's faithfulness, zeal, and great wisdom applied to
the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem and the reinstitution of Israel's
commitment to God and His religious/civil administration is expounded.
The book offers many lessons for how Christians ought to respond to
seemingly impossible challenges.

| Jim, that could be a confirmation from the Lord ;-) Seriously, get
your ex-wife a copy too. If you are still dating, all the more reason
to read it together.

| That is a WONDERFUL book, and influenced me profoundly. God used it
powerfully in conviction of my heart, and reading it literally changed many
attitudes in me overnight.
I'd recommend it to anyone.
An even better option is to buy the book "Staying in Love for a Lifetime."
It's a compilation of three books by Ed Wheat, one of those books being "Love
Life for every married couple." The other two books contain even more sound
biblical wisdom from Dr. Wheat. This book is quite a bargain - it's a big
hardback book and it's only $10.95 from CBD. Check it out at the CBD home

Currently reading "Counterfeit Revival" by Hank Hannegraaf. I'm only
a few chapters into it, but it is quite a discussion on the "Toronto Blessing".

| Hank's is going to be at our church in 2 weeks. I've only waited on
buying it until then so I can get a signed copy. Otherwise, I'd also
be reading it right now.
I have some friends that work in local Christian bookstores. Some of
them are national (i.e., Berean, Lord's Vineyard/Joshua Christian
Bookstores). They all say they are selling the book out faster than
they arrive. It's only been out 2 weeks and is already in its 2nd
printing!

Weathering the Midlife Storm. Bobb Biehl. Victor Books.
Many men will suffer a midlife storm during the period of their late
thirties to fifties. Biehl provides a "Midlife Map" to help men
navigate through the course of their middle years.
I'm clearly entering into a midlife storm and highly recommend the book
to those who also may be struggling with the onset of these years.
Perhaps you are right in the middle of the storm. This book may help
you get through it.
Biehl provides the Midlife Map to provide context and to reduce the
many components that could be relevant to midlife struggles and reduces
them to several crystal clear elements. Biehl writes:
"There are two fundamental issues: 1, a person's dreams, and 2,
emotional needs.
There are four "triggers" to midlife reevalution: 1, disappointed
dreams, 2, burnout 3, aging, and 4, unmet emotional needs.
There are three stages in the midlife process: 1, midlife reevaluation
2, midlife crisis, and 3, midlife crash/dropout."
Of course he doesn't, as it might appear, believe you have to go
through crisis or crash/dropout even though many men do. This book
should help to avoid it in fact.
Good reading!
