54.3 | Message from the Stone Mason of Nazareth | PHXSS1::HEISER | Maranatha! | Tue Mar 11 1997 13:44 | 37 |
| John 20:6
Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and
seeth the linen clothes lie,
20:7 And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen
clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.
20:8 Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre,
and he saw, and believed.
Have you ever wondered about verse 7? Was Jesus just a "neat-nik"? Is
the Holy Spirit trying to tell us something?
Most people today know that Christ's body was wrapped in strips of
linen (like a mummy) and sealed so that it would become a cocoon-like
shell. The face was open and covered with a kerchief or napkin as
referenced in verse 7.
The original Greek uses some interesting variations for the verb "see"
that provide some clues as to what is going on. In verse 5, John
glanced into the tomb and "blepo." Peter, in verse 6, "theoreo."
"Blepo" and "Theoreo" are spectator's versions of "to see." Sort of
like what you are seeing now on your screen. Just looking. A purely
outward look.
The interesting verb is in verse 8 when John "saw and believed." The verb
here is "eidon" is to see with *UNDERSTANDING*! John saw the napkin
rolled up and the undisturbed, but empty burial clothes and *KNEW* what
it meant!
So what does it mean? The rolled up napkin or kerchief was used by
stone masons in Israel up until the 1950's to signify that their work
was complete. They would place it on top of whatever project they were
working on. This puts reinforced meaning to "It is finished!"
As Christians today, we can look at John 20:12 and also experience
"eidon" as John did. The angels on each end of the burial clothes are a
perfect picture of the top of the Ark of the Covenant: both angels
facing the atoning sacrifice (i.e., the mercy seat).

| The only information I have that relates is with respect to weddings in
those days. Jesus Christ often spoke "bridegroom" talk so it helps to
know a little about the wedding process. For example, John 14:1-6 is
another example of "bridegroom" talk. As you read the process, I'm
sure many other examples or applications will come to mind. A brief
overview of the process:
- The Bridegroom has to pay a price for the Bride to the Father.
- The Groom leaves and cannot see the Bride until their wedding day.
- In the meantime, the Groom adds on a room to Father's house (John 14).
- Only the Father can say when the Groom can go get His Bride.
- The Groom always arrives when the Bride is least expecting Him. They
would have to be ready and prepared at all times. He could come in the
middle of the night - anytime. It was typical to occur after nightfall.
- Everyone in the procession was expected to have their own torch/lamp.
Those who didn't were recognized as party crashers or brigands. The
wise would always have plenty of oil and be prepared at all times.
Preparedness can neither be transferred or shared.
- The Bride would hear the trumpets blast from the approaching Groom
(and His procession) and would go out to meet Him. He would not enter
her house, she goes to meet Him.
- The Bride's maids (who could also be the virgins in Matthew 25) would
go out to meet the Groom with the Bride.
- Then begins the 7-day Wedding Feast, always at the Groom's House.
- The Bride and Groom are presented publicly after the 7 days.
The Messiah has been given the title of Bridegroom in several passages:
Isaiah 54:4-6; 62:4-5; Ezekiel 16:7-34; Hosea 2:19; Matthew 9:15; Mark
2:19-20.
Matthew 25 is the 3rd in a sequence. The first (24:42-44) warned of
the unexpectedness of Messiah's coming. The second (24:45-51) showed
that more than passive watchfulness is required: there must be behavior
acceptable to the master, the discharge of allotted responsibilities.
This third parable (25:1-13) now stresses the need for preparedness in
the face of an unexpectedly long delay.

54.7 | Shemology - Birth Order of the 12 Tribes | PHXSS1::HEISER | Maranatha! | Wed Mar 19 1997 12:00 | 46 |

Subject: Shemology: A Clear Message in Birth Order.
A Shemology in the Book of Genesis
*************************************
Shem is the Biblical Hebrew word for "name" and thus Shemology is the
study of Biblical names whereby a list of names from the Bible (Hebrew
& Greek), can sometime yield hidden treasure to the reader. The Key: All
things must point to the LORD GOD, and His plan. For example:
If you translate the meaning of the names from the bank of meanings you
can find you can see deeper meaning then just the names themselves. Let
us look at the Twelve Tribes Of Israel in their Birth order.
(Read downwards from the Definition Bank List.)
Name Definition Bank
*************************
Reuben - Behold a son, (Look on Me)
Simeon - Hear Him, (Hear Me)
Levi - Be Joined, (With me)
Judah - Give Him Praise, (Now will I praise the Lord)
Dan - Judge
Naphtali- Strife, My Wrestling
Gad - Fortune
Asher - Happy and Blessed
Issachar- He Brings Reward
Zebulun - Dwelling with Us
Joseph - He shall Add
Benjamin- The Son of His Right Hand, Son of my right hand
Now, let us put it together like a translator would. Let us use the
definition bank, and put them together so they may line up with the Word
of God, and give Him glory, if they do not then you do not have a
Shemology.
********************************************************
" Behold, a Son! hear Him <and> be joined! Give Him praise. Judge <His>
strife, <and His> fortune. Happy and blessed <am I>, for He brings <my>
reward. Dwelling with us. He shall add, <He is> "the Son of His right
hand". <emphasis mine>
What does this message shout out to you? To me it's loud and clear:
"Yeshua the Messiah-- the Good News of the Hebrew Bible!"
Shalom
