Does anyone have any interesting Easter ideas? I'm working with 4 year
olds that really can't grasp sin or salvation right now. I was
thinking of using the verse: Jesus is alive as our month's verse.

You can always teach kids "Jesus Loves Me". After all, that is why he
came down from heaven in the first place. We can never say that
enough to anyone and starting with a young age is great.

Amen....not too long ago I was in a grocery store and heard a little voice
singing that song..a little girl, couldn't have been more than 3..singing
Jesus Loves Me as her mom pushed the grocery store.

Yeah, I guess if my mom had told me that Jesus loved me while she
pushed a grocery store, then as a child I'd have little problem believing
    anything she said! :-)

Argh, the name is slipping me!

One of the most respected and brilliant theologians of this century (I *DID*
know the name!), was asked near the end of his life, while speaking to a packed
auditorium: "What is the most profound theological thought you have ever
encountered in all your long years of study?" He stood there, lost in thought
for a moment, and then began to softly sing:

"Jesus loves me, this I know..."

    March Memory Verse:
    ---------------------
       Jesus is alive! Acts 1:3

    Lesson:
    -------
Jesus wants to be our best friend.

    The Prodigal Son Luke 15:11-32

There was a boy. He did something really bad. He went to his father
and asked for his part of all the family's money. Then he took that
money and left. He didn't want to be with his father anymore. Can
you imagine how sad his dad was?

Have you ever felt like running away from home? Would you know what
to do, where to go? This boy didn't either.

The boy took all that money and left home. It was a large amount of
money. it should have been enough to last him his whole life. He
spent it all right away! Then he had no money to buy food or even a
    place to sleep.

He finally got a job working on a stranger's farm. The only job he
could get was taking care of the pigs. Pigs are rather dirty and
messy! He didn't even have any food. He wished that he could eat the
pig's food. Imagine that! He had nothing anymore. He lost it all!
He lost all his money. He lost his family. He was really foolish.

Then one day he suddenly realized something and he came to his
senses. Have you ever suddenly realized something and wondered why
you didn't see it before because it was so obvious now? Anyway the
boy realized that he would much rather take care of his father's pigs
than these stranger's. At least that way we would be near his family.

So he went home. He told his dad that he had been very wrong. He
said that he had sinned by leaving that way and wasting all that
money. He said he didn't deserve to be called a son anymore so he
asked his dad to please just let him be one of his workers.

What do you think his dad did? What would your father do? His father
was so happy to have his son back that he forgave him totally! The
father said the boy was like he had been dead because he was gone from
him, and now he is alive! The dad didn't care what the boy did wrong,
he just wanted him near him. He wanted to share in all the boy's
problems. He wanted to be close to him and love him and forgive him
and teach him to do right.

Jesus wants you to be close to him too. To talk to him. Jesus is sad
when you run away. He already knows all the bad things you do and He
forgives you and wants to be your best friend. He wants to share
everything with you and to love you always. Remember, His love lasts
    forever.

    Tonight we:

We learned that Jesus died on the cross for our sins but then He rose
again! We played a bean bag game. We baked a cake.

Where is Jesus now? Did you know that Jesus is coming back for us?

    Stories:
    --------
    John 14:1-6

    Jesus said:
"In my Father's house are many rooms. I am going there to prepare a
place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come
back and take you to be with me so you may be where I am.

You know the way to the place where I am going."

Do you know the way? His disciple Thomas didn't either.

Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how
    can we know the way?"

Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one
comes to the Father except through me.

Lets remember what Jesus did at Easter time.

    Revelation 21
1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the
first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.
2I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven
from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.
3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of
God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people,
and God himself will be with them and be their God.
4He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death
or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed
    away."
5He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!"
It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the
End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the
spring of the water of life.
7He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he
    will be my son.
8But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the
immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all
liars--their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This
    is the second death."

9One of the seven angels said to me, "Come, I will show you the bride,
    the wife of the Lamb."
10And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high,
and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from
    God.
11It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of
a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal.
12It had a great, high wall with twelve gates, and with twelve angels
at the gates. On the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes
    of Israel.
14The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the
names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
18The wall was made of jasper gems, and the city of pure gold, as pure
    as glass.
19The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of
    precious stones like diamonds.
21The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single
pearl. The great street of the city was of pure gold, like transparent
    glass.
22I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty
and the Lamb are its temple.
23The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the
glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.
24The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will
    bring their splendor into it.
25On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night
    there.
26The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it.
27Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is
shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the
    Lamb's book of life.

    re .19

This one was fun. We had some older girls help us. I had a small
cardboard box for each child and we had then design their room in
heaven. We asked them what would be in it, what colors, etc. It was
very fun. Very interesting what they put in their rooms too. One boy
put in a bowling alley another put in a pet bird. His Mom says he has
been asking for a pet bird for years.

I read the revelation chapter while they were eating. I've found thats
a good way to get them to listen! I was surprised that many already
know some of the things in it.

They also love the simple memory verses. They understand them and can
actually remember them. I stopped using the harder ones when what they
would recite back to me didn't bear any resemblance to the actual
verse. The words were too hard and they didn't understand what it
meant at all. With simplier verses they get the understanding and can
even remember it. Simple verses can be just as powerful too.

    May Memory Verse:
    ---------------------
Do not worry, tell God your problems, and God will keep you in
        peace.
                                 Philippians 4:6-7 (paraphrased)

Isn't it great that God will help us with all our problems? See how
much He loves us? Be glad that you can share everything with God.

    Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and
petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the
peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your
hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

    Lesson:
    -------
Today's lesson is on the birds of the field and how they don't plant
and store up food yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable are
we than birds! Who of us by worrying can add a single hour to his
life? "Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father is pleased to
    give you the kingdom"

    Luke 12:22-34 (NIV)
22Then Jesus said to his disciples: "Therefore I tell you, do not
worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you
will wear. 23Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes.
24Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom
or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than
birds! 25Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
26Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about
the rest? 27"Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labor or
spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed
like one of these. 28If that is how God clothes the grass of the
field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how
much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! 29And do not set
your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it.
30For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father
knows that you need them. 31But seek his kingdom, and these things
will be given to you as well. 32"Do not be afraid, little flock, for
your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. 33Sell your
possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that
will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted,
where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. 34For where your
treasure is, there your heart will be also.

    Tonight we:
    -----------
Made birds and nests. Ate birds nests! Learned not to worry.

44.22RAINBOWS May 14, 1997HPCGRP::DIEWALDThu May 15 1997 11:4741
You know, my Rainbow class last night even surprised me. Tuesday
night I still didn't really have a lesson that I felt inspired to do.
So I sort of threw together some stuff that had been percolating
around in my head. It was the story of the Lion and the Mouse. It
wasn't even a bible story but it felt sort of right. I had a fable
book that I wanted to use but I just couldn't find it! I searched and
searched. So I sort of walked in there not totally prepared. We each
made a lion and a mouse out of paper and I used them as puppets
basically to tell the story. Then the story fell right in with our
memory verse, which by the way, everyone had actually memorized!!! I
was astounded! It was a very hard verse.

Anyway the story went like this...

There was this little mouse who stepped on a large thorn and hurt his
foot so bad that he couldn't walk at all. Then he saw a LARGE scary
lion coming toward him. The mouse couldn't even run away. How do you
think he felt? Do you think he was worried? Did he have a problem?
What do we do when we are worried (hint its from the memory verse).
We pray to God. Lets all pray to God for this mouse. Now the lion
comes up and says, what a nice tasty little mouse. I think I will
have him for dinner. The mouse is very bold and says don't eat me. I
think our prayers helped make him bold! The lion says why shouldn't I
eat you? The mouse says because if you help me some day I will help
you too. The lion thinks that this is so funny that he laughs and
laughs. Can you imagine a tiny little mouse helping a HUGE lion? But
the lion does help the mouse and lets him go. A long time later the
lion is walking in the forest and he gets caught in a net and cannot
get out. The lion is afraid that the hunters are going to find him
and kill him. He is worried. What do we do when we are worried? We
pray to God. Lets help the lion pray. Ok now look what do I see?
Its a mouse. Its the same mouse! I think our prayers helped! What
is the mouse doing? He is chewing at the ropes and breaking them and
letting the lion out! He was right, he did help the lion after all.
And they were friends forever more.

    God is good, funny too.

    Jill
