| DECVET is not a "product" in the way that most other software that
Digital provides to customers is. By this I mean we don't sell it, it
doesn't have license PAK issues, etc. It is a tool that was developed
to help ensure that a system is basically installed correctly, and that
devices are functioning OK. At some point in its life, it was decided
to give VET away to Alpha system users, and bundle it with the firmware
releases.
Is it supported? Yes. We intend to get up-to-date, and then keep it
current with operating system releases. We also intend to fix problems,
make sure it works on new platforms, and support new options.

| Woops, I missed a couple of points that were asked in .0.
There are VET images for all three operating systems on the CD, you
just can't see them all at the same time. If the CD is mounted as a
files-11 volume, you'll see the VMS pieces. If mounted as an ISO9660
volume you'll see the UNIX and NT pieces if you look within the \cdrom\
subdirectory..
The VET for VMS on the V3.9 CD is supported on any V6.2 base. It will
also install on V7.x, but with installation warnings. As far as we
know, it works OK on V7.
There are versions of VET for UNIX V3.2x and V4.0x. I don't think the
sub-versions of UNIX are an issue (but I'm sure someone will prove me
wrong).
There's a version of VET for NT V3.51.
The next CD will have VET for NT V4.0 and VMS V7.x.

| Jean-Pierre,
Your firmware cd has two "sides". DEC VET/vms is on the vms/files=11 side.
DEC VET/unix/nt is on the ISO side and can only be read from the device that
reads that format, e.g., your NT workstation or UNIX server. So all three VETs
are really there.
The release notes certainly supercede whatever info your customer has. DECVET 3.5
supports VMS V7.0. You can get older version from earlier firmware CDs or:
proxy::"$7$dus258:[vet$public.v3_x]
The release notes contain a table showing version compatibility between VET and
each supported operating system. Use that to determine which VET you need.
The latest releases are available from the firmware cd, vet$public or:
ftp://imzppy.eng.pko.dec.com/decvet/
