602.0. "decsteps, focus 6.5.3, manauls" by CHEFS::BROOKSP (Paul Brooks, Reading, England) Wed Mar 22 1995 06:45

Hi kiddies,

We have noticed that with the new DECSTEPS, the focus version is 6.5.3,
and when using TABLETALK, the IF selector has been replaced by the verb
WHERE, and ; is used in the WHERE syntax. ooooh, 5"&^$*&T$

Anyway, we haven't tested upward compatability of code yet, but are
expecting some fun...

For anybody that needs to get manuals, we did it by LVO, ordering
FOCUS 6.5 for open VMS, at 30 per 2 volume set, plus 3.50 postage,

602.1'IF' still working ???JURA::COISSARDWed Mar 29 1995 04:596
    Hello,

    Does it mean that the IF selector has to be replaced by WHERE in all
    the FOCUS programs ? or is it only for TABLETALK ?

    Dominique.

602.3IF versus WHERECHEFS::BROOKSPPaul Brooks, Reading, EnglandTue Apr 04 1995 11:0413
Hi kiddies,

Although we have yet to test it all out, our beautiful new FOCUS manuals
suggest that IF statements can still be used in procedures, it's just
that TABLTALK uses WHERE instead.

I think that WHERE has been chosen because IF statements used in record
selection cannot use compound statements (AND's etc), so you have to
use the IF in a DEFINE FILE statement for that, whereas....
WHERE can use compound statements directly in record selection.

Well, that's the theory..... Cheers, Paul
