Hi, I have a field whose value can either be alpha or numeric. The master file defines the field to be A12. There is a comment in the master file as follows : $ if the engineering data value is numeric, then it is stored as a $ comp-2 number in the first 8 bytes of the value field. The value I am trying to get is actually an exponential number but when I try to print the field I just get control characters. How can I get my exponential number from an A12 field. I've tried defining the field as a D8 but just get zero. All suggestions appreciated. Thanx, Stuart.

If you were describing an RMS file with a comp-2 number field, you would use D8 as the actual FOCUS format. Look at the data file to see what you are describing...does it look like binary data or alpha? I'm not aware of an exponential format in FOCUS. |
