Note 267.0 RMS with TABLETALK - Novice Questions No replies

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am currently investigating the best way to structure an RMS reporting
file extract in order to use FOCUS and in particular TABLETALK to carry
out queries on the data. However I know absolutely nothing about FOCUS
other than what I have been able to learn from this notesfile, so would
be grateful if anyone could help me by answering a few questions:

    - It looks like I will have one (currently sequential) RMS file containing
much of the data on which reporting is to be carried out, in a variable
record format, with a different record type for each different type of
data ("person", "account", "branch", etc). Information containing code
descriptions will be available in separate files. If necessary, I will
have to write procedures to reformat the data into different files or a
different record structure, but would prefer not to have to.

    - Can the data from different files be joined using FOCUS such that when
using TABLETALK, the users are not aware that the data is coming from
different files, and if so, then briefly, how?

    - Can a join be made between different records, eg for a person, person
plus account details, this information being found in several different
record types within the same file; or should this information be split
out from the file that I receive into separate files, or stored in a
    single record per person?

    Many thanks for any help,

     Karen.
