484.0. "EFBLK when BACKUP/VERIFY of FOCUS" by SHAWB1::WHITTLEI () Thu Nov 28 1991 10:43
Hi,
I have had a query from a customer using FOCUS & to be quite honest I
don't know why he is getting the problem he's getting, & I don't really
think it is a problem but I thought I'd check in here anyway.
Scenario
Customer is making a backup using /VERIFY of his system & is getting
EFBLK errors reported on some .FMV files.
This to me would indicate that there is some inconsistency between the
EOF pointer as far as RMS thinks & where it really is. Is this caused
by the Application preallocating files or something, or does it format
its files in some curious way, or is there some problem with them? I've
tried to reproduce the problem to no avail using file in which I've
juggled the EOF around in the files allocated area.
My customer is mystified as he has only just taken over managing the
system & so doesn't really want the integrity of his backups in doubt.
So, if anyone can offer any advice I/we would be most grateful.
One other thing, I don't know if its of relevance but the m/c has VAX
DSM installed.
Regards,
Ian..
