| 479.1 | more info on window problem | MLCADG::FERRARIF |  | Thu Nov 07 1991 06:22 | 17 |
|  |
    Hi,

    I have found that the error is occuring when the application is
    already running on another session.

    If a User is connected, the second user will obtain the error.

    Is Focus locking the window file while using it?

    If yes, how can I use the same window file for more then one user?

    Any help will be appreciate.
    thanx
    Fabio.

| 479.2 | Protection Bug ! | RDGE60::KEEGANP |  | Fri Nov 08 1991 04:22 | 17 |
|  |     Hi Fabio,

    I myself have not encountered this problem, but I have just spoken to
    an ex-colleague who has. The problem is a known bug under v6.1.0, but
    *should* be fixed under 6.1.1.

    In the meantime, I am told that the 'fix' is to set the protection of the
    Window file (.fmv) to...

     World=Read/Execute, Group=Read/Execute, System=ALL, Owner=Delete

    Also, if you need to amend the Window file, 'pull' it into your own
    area, change it, replace it & reset the protection.

    Hope this does the trick,

    Paul K

    Hi Paul,

    thanx for your reply.
    I tryed to set file protection as you seggested, but I'm afraid to say
    it doesn't work.
    The error is still occuring when opening the second session.

    Any other ideas?
    Thanx
    Fabio.

| 479.4 | Sorry - more news Monday ? | RDGE60::KEEGANP |  | Fri Nov 08 1991 09:11 | 12 |
|  |     Fabio,

    I'm sorry but I cannot contact my ex-colleague now until next week, but
    I have checked my notes from the conversation I had with him this
    morning and the solution I gave you is as he suggested. I will try to
    talk to him again on Monday

    Sorry again,

    Paul K

| 479.5 | Final step: RESET protection | RDGE60::KEEGANP |  | Mon Nov 11 1991 05:45 | 11 |
|  |     Fabio,

    I have just repeated the suggested solution on my own account and IT
    DOES WORK !. Having contacted my friend again, he emphasises that you
    MUST ensure Owner=DELETE. I found that having a default protection on
    my account reset the .FMV file's protection when copying back. So, make
    sure that after copying the .FMV file back to the relevant (library)
    directory, you set the protection accordingly. Let me know what
    happens...

    Regards,      Paul K

	Hi Paul,

	Your solution is working fine if I run the window file interactively
	from FOCUS prompt (> ), but not when I use the procedure.
	The protection for the file is as follows: (My account has SPORT_ADM
	identif.)
SPORT.FMV;1              39/39       1-FEB-1991 11:58:35.07  SPORT_ADM
   (RWED,D,RE,RE)
          (IDENTIFIER=SPORT_ADM,ACCESS=READ+WRITE+EXECUTE+DELETE+CONTROL)
          (IDENTIFIER=SPORT_USR,ACCESS=READ+WRITE+EXECUTE)
          (IDENTIFIER=[*,*],ACCESS=NONE)
          (DEFAULT_PROTECTION,SYSTEM:RWED,OWNER:RWED,GROUP:,WORLD:)

	Thanx again for your help and Best regards
	Fabio.
