My customer wants to select a 4GL for his Process Control Application.
He is currently looking at two packages UserBase from Pioneer and Focus.
He needs a 4GL that will do the following:
1. Report Writer that will easily do reports in the following way:
Record 1 record 2 record 3
Field-1
Field-2
Field-3
.
.
.
2. Global section manipulation.
3. From Vax, edit files on PDP-11.
Reading notes 152 and 122, it seems to me that PRINT OVER command in Focus
will meet the first requirement. But can it handle between 300 to 600 fields
and 8 records for each field? ANy performance consideration?
Number 2 probably needs to be handled by 3GL link. Is it easy to do and
is there any known problem?
I am not sure about number 3.
Any comment or information is appreciated.
