My Customer, Shared Medical Systems, an OEM of Digital is currently using DTR for the report writer functionality with their product Allegra. They are considering switching to FOCUS but first would like to get some information on how FOCUS and DTR compare with the report writer functionality in terms of functionality and performance. Can anyone help me with this or point me to some information. I am a database person and really don't know much about either of them. Thanks, Rita Mines

Speaking only for myself, I currently write Focus procedures for the USDS group and find it easyer than our internal programming products. For me, functionality wise it takes less code with focus to produce what is needed for formatted output, performance wise I don't know. bob | |||||

I don't know of any specific studies comparing Focus and DTR but the fact is that Focus is considered the premier 4GL in the industry as evidenced by numerous industry awards, number of users, number of licenses; and report writing is considered its forte. In addition it runs on just about any hardware platform out there, including UNIX and PC's. Shared Medical may be interested in IBI's run-time licensing and marketing/coop program. |
