Hello, COHESION FOR Rapid Application Development using FOCUS from IBI. I am in the ADSG Engineering group located in TTB. We are in the process of putting together a COHESION SOLUTION for RAPID Application Development (RAD). The goal is to give application developers the environment they need or want. Make it easy to get started. Give them an engineering methodology if they need it. This is more that DECstart services or product training. This means all the software installed. All the directories, and logicals set up. A list of Digital platforms and services to pick from. Whatever it takes. The concept is similar to the DECtp tool kit plus additional capabilities. In addition to all this we want to prototype up a GUI (Graphical User Interface) to make it easier for the developer to work with. Essential what we have is a very crude or basic developers workbench using Motif or DECwindows. What environment, using FOCUS with VMS or RISC/ULTRIX, is needed to develop applications? What would you have wanted the first time you started using FOCUS? As an experienced user of FOCUS what would you like the application development environment to be? Regards, Ernie

OK, let's see if I got this right.
COHESION to me is 1. design a system using DECdesign.
2. build a data model in CDD
3. build an RDB database based on that model.
4. build a Focus application using data definitions
from CDD and/or RDB.
Now assuming I already use DECwindows DECterms as my interface,
what else do you want to do that involves Focus?

Excuse my ignorance, but why FOCUS and why not a Digital product like Rally? What's in it for Digital if we develop this environment? It sure looks like a winner for IBI, though. "DEC wants to help sell our software? Sure!" | |||||
