I have a 315K block FOCUS file which seems to have a problem with an EOF marker. When I do a TABLE command and don't use any selection criteria, the request does not complete i.e. it just runs indefinitely. I have let it run as long as 27 hours before aborting it. I have tried the REBUILD function using both the REORG and DUMP options. In both cases the jobs run indefinitely. The log files show REFERENCE..AT SEGMENT nnnnnnn where n goes up to several million before I abort the job. I continue to update this file on a daily basis and the updates run without any error messages. Unfortunately, the only two backups of this file have the same problem. Anyone have any ideas on how I can rectify this problem ?

Sounds like major corruption. But check the Focus file integrity using REBUILD CHECK, ? FILE and TABLEF as described in 12-40 +41 in the doc. If you can still read the file you may be able to salvage most of it by dumping it out with TABLE. Better yet if you have all the data and/or transaction files that have gone into so far you could re-create it. Don't update or add to it until you find out what's going on. Let us know what you find. -Richard |
