My customer wants to develop Focus applications on a MicroVAX for execution on a 6420 cluster. He is wondering what kind of Rsb license is needed to support his applications. I believe a Run-time is sufficient, unless he wants to do interactive SQL (Interactve license required) or create/maintain databases (Full Development require). He and I are having terminology problems. He refers to a type of application he calls "heuristic mode". Can anyone give me some insight into this and whether it requires interactive or full development Rdb? Thanks, Dave

well, from the little Oxford dictionary: "Heuristic (adjective). serving to discover; using trial and error. Seems to me he's using some form of prototyping, or "Suck it and see" approach. As such, he may be creating new RDB databases, with different views/tables, etc.. Unless he's misusing the word.... David | |||||

Yes - I tried the "maybe it's a real word" approach, also. The trial and error aspect caused me to think he's be doing interactive SQL to create his views. I'm assuming therefore, that he'd at least need an Interactive license for Rdb. Comments, anyone? |
