356.0. "COMMON WORK AREA" by WILKIE::QUINONES () Mon Jul 30 1990 09:18

Is there a way of re-directing the FOCUS temporary files (e.g. FOCSORT.FTM)
to an area other than the temporary directory created when a MRE procedure is
run? When running large reports, it is not uncommon to run out of diskquota.
We are very limited in disk space, and rather than increasing each user's quota,
I would like to create a "common work area" for all users on a seperate device
or directory. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Carl

On pg 12-11 of the FOCUS Users Manual you can use the SET TEMPDIR command.
It says:

Selects the directory for storing extract files (HOLD and SAVE) and for
temporary work space. This defaults to the current directory at entry to FOCUS.

The SET TEMPDIR command will work, but it would have to be put in EACH
procedure. What I would like to do is have all procedures point to
the "common area" without having to define it individually. Is it
possible??

Can't you put it in the profile.fex?

In MRE, you could put the SET TEMPDIR in the
Application Pre-Processing .FEX

On reflection, I think this would cause some MRE
procedures to Fail drastically -
for example PRS Procedures.

As such, try it.. but the MRE support team
won't support it...

Maybe in the next release.. (How often have you heared that???)
