265.0. "FOCUS/Rdb Revisited" by RUTLND::GANZ () Thu Sep 07 1989 11:42
I am working on a project to create an MAXCIM Rdb Data Warehouse and
provide the tools for an End User Computing Program. Presently I am spending
some time deciding which tools to use - be a good guy and use RALLY/TEAMDATA
or use a Non-DEC product (FOCUS).
This notes file is obviously one source of info on FOCUS/RDB. FOCUS/RDB,
however, has gotten somewhat of a bad press in this notesfile. For example
note 84 BEWARE RDB and FOCUS USERS has some pretty natsy things to say. BTW,
portions of this note got widely distributed in various mail messages.
This is no criticism of the notes authors, we need to hear these things.
The only problem I have is that there is no opposing (or new) views that have
been entered regarding this issue. For example I know that BTO is in the
process of converting these MAXCIM FOCUS system to being FOCUS/Rdb based and
they are pleased (I think) with the results.
I think it would be useful to those groups considering using FOCUS/Rdb
to get an updated evaluation from those using it (including buginess,
performance etc.)
Thanks
Russ Ganz
