I am currently having a problems with file logicals in the latest release of Focus (v5.2.1). We have logicals for files assigned at the logical name table level that aren't translating properly. They worked under the last version of Focus. "Directory" logicals work at the logical name table level. "File" logicals work at the JOB and GROUP assignment levels. For example : LNM$PRODA table definitions are : PROD_FILE = PROD_DATA:PROD001.FOC PROD_DATA = PROD_DATA_ROOT:[DAT] Use statement is : USE PROD_FILE AS PRODCT Results are : PROD_DATA is correctly translated. PROD_FILE defaults to my account as [STEVENS]PROD001.FOC. If I move the logical assignment of PROD_FILE to the JOB or GROUP DEFINE, the logical gets translated correctly. I hope that I explained it clearly enough! Our system manager has a call into the IBI/FOCUS hotline, but no answers yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. You can send me mail at KAHALA::STEVENS. Paul

Check the expansion of your device name as expanded: Is prod_data_root really large? What I mean is that FOCUS has fixed length buffers for pathnames and if you exceed the length you get results such as you describe. Curtis CoppersmitH |
