241.0. "FOCUS, Rdb & database binds" by SHAPES::ADDLETONG (2 minds, but with 1 single memory (MH, 6'6")) Tue Jul 18 1989 07:31
G'Day All,
We in Basingstoke have been doing some monitoring of FOCUS access of our
Rdb database (using RMU).
What we have discovered is that for any particular run (report etc),
than FOCUS is binding once to the database for _each_ relation accessed.
This means that a single report using say 10 different relations will
bind to the database as 10 seperate users. Obviously, this is very
inefficient, and in the case of larger clusters, one must take care with
the database "NUMBER OF USERS IS" clause.
I have 2 questions:
. Has anyone found a way to avoid this multiple DB bind problem?
(ie have we done something silly which is confusing FOCUS)
. Does anyone know if IBI are aware of this problem, and if so,
what the likely shedule is to get it fixed?
Thanks for any input,
Glenn
