198.0. "A1 -> FOCUS remote" by BAHTAT::WILLIAMSH () Fri Apr 14 1989 05:57

Ok, we have a customer with ALL-IN-1 users on one machine in one
location, and FOCUS users on another machine in a remote location.
They want the ALL-IN-1 users to have access to FOCUS using ALL-IN-1
as a front end, with the facility to "jump" in and out of FOCUS
    to ALL-IN-1.
We have demonstrated this capability with both ALL-IN-1 and FOCUS
running locally. The key sequence CTRL<SHIFT>? being used to interrupt
FOCUS and "jump" back to ALL-IN-1.
The thing is, to run FOCUS remotely we have to use SET HOST but
does this mean we will lose the interrupt facility? I have a horrible
feeling that the interrupt will "jump" to the parent process which
is the SET HOST ie. the $ prompt on the remote machine. Before I
go to the lengths of trying this out ( we have to install FOCUS
on another machine to do it) is there anybody who knows the answer?

If it doesn't work, will FOCNET provide a solution?
If not, does it mean DECwindows as a front end?????!

    Hope you can help.

I Support an area product called MRE. Version 1.2 onwards supports
data-store applications on a remote node. The way it does this
    is:
    1)	Generate a command file
    2)	Generate a save_set of the procedure (.FEX)
    3)	Generate an STC Job to copy the command file and saveset to
the remote node, and run the command file. The procedure accesses
    data at the remote node.

    4)	When the command file has finished at the remote node, it
packs itself back into a save_set, together with the
report/graph/spreadsheet/data files created, and starts another
STC job to copy the whole caboodle back.

    5)	On reciept by the All-in-1 Node, it unpacks the save_set, selects
the bits it wants to save, and notifies the user that his remote
    procedure has finished.

    6)	Then, it imports the results back into All-in-1.

Unfortunately, we may be not allowed to supply you with a copy of
the application - it's an ADG Package, and is distributed around
the UK , Europe, and the States (only two sites in the states, though)
