166.0. "Not Impressed With SAA Support; What about VIA?" by AKOV88::BIBEAULT (Unlimited Possibilites) Fri Jan 06 1989 13:13
I just received the Focus FLASH dated December 1988 and feel IBI
has insulted Digital once again in the following excerpt:
IBI to Develop FOCUS for the AS/400
IBI announces the formation of a new division to develop
FOCUS for the Application Systems/400 mid-range computer - -
bringing the sophistication and power of the FOCUS 4GL to the
IBM mid-range environment for the first time. With this additional
FOCUS platform, current FOCUS users will enjoy true application
portablility between IBM mainframe, mid-range and personal
computers...
"This is another step in IBI's ongoing support of IBM's System
Application Architecture", says Gerald Cohen.
When is IBI going to make a commitment to supporting the VAX
Information Architecture? Is support of VAX standards like
31-character data names, lengthly file and device names and
seamless integration with CDD/Plus and Rdb/VMS too much to ask?
Or are we VAX Focus users going to be continually constrained
by the limitations of IBM standards which, in turn, seem to
become IBI standards?
- One who LOVES the functionality but DISLIKES the "standards"
