123.0. "V5.2.1 Beta Includes Writable Rdb/RMS Interface" by OFFPLS::RYAN () Wed Aug 31 1988 17:08

    I've just received a beta version of v5.2.1 which includes the
    following:

    	o  Read/Write to Rdb
    	o  Read/Write to RMS
        o  Read to DBMS/including AUTODBMS
        o  Enhancements to windows
    	o 20-30% speed improvement in MODIFY (hmmm?)
    	o  Keypad support for ALL-IN-1 (PF1=GOLD)
    	o Read/write data to and from mailboxes

    and some others odds-and-ends which don't affect many of us:

    	o  Read/Write to Oracle
    	o  Read to Ingres
    	o  Read to SYBASE

    I requested the beta copy because I'm primarily interested in the
    writable FOCUS/Rdb interface. If the MODIFY syntax works with Rdb as
    advertised, it may be reason enough to use FOCUS - to update/add/delete
    data into an Rdb relation. Supposedly, the COMBINE verb works and
    several relations can be updated in one pass.

    If anyone is interested, you might contact Emma Schwartz at IBI's NYC
    office.

123.1READ_ONLY Transactions with 5.2ILO::MCKNIGHTMichael Mcknight 890-2516 IRM,Mervue,IrelandMon Sep 19 1988 08:3517
Hello,
   Has anybody been able to answer how to get FOCUS to start a READ_ONLY
    transaction . We have an application here in Mervue, with
    which most of the associated programs start SHARED WRITE NOWAIT,
    however when a FOCUS is querying the same relation as the program
    is using it causes the system to fallover - which in light of the
    application is quite serious. Also I asked the system manager here
    whether at the time of installation was he prompted for a READ_ONLY
    interface for 5.2, he says no, we also checked the log of the
    installation which concurs with what he said.

    		Has anybody any thoughts ??
