101.0. "Multi User in Modify - HELP!" by FDCV09::LEVASSEUR () Mon Aug 01 1988 12:23
I was wondering if anyone can help me with a small FOCUS database
I'm creating. Each month in our group we prepare 10-20 manual
adjustment feeder files. The existing program is in Cobol and is
very unforgiving when data entry errors are made. The FOCUS version
I'm writing validates all incomming data, so keying errors are not
allowed. There's a field which bears the feeder name, prompted for.
Then the feeder is tables to a hold file that our cobol processing
program can read. Two questions:
o In the old program, multi-users could maintain the database at
the same time. When two or more users try accessing the file to
add records, the program bombs. I was told theres a way to make
a focus database multi user capable in modify, something about
defining a sink machine. None of the people in my group have used
FOCUS to maintain data, only for reporting and my manuals are
very sketchy. Any help appreciated.
o In the existing Cobol program as the user enters the dollar field
it is displayed delimited by commas every third place. How can
I get the FOCUS version to display the commas at data entry time?
The dollar field is defined as P12C in the MFD. I'm not using
Dialogue Manager variables, all input in CRTFORM
" YTD Amount : <DOLLARS"

101.1 | <Simultaneous Usage Facility> | NRPUR::CUSACK | | Tue Aug 02 1988 11:48 | 9 |
| Setting up a sink machine (using the simultaneous usage facility)
is not tremendously difficult, but it would take a fair amount of
writing to explain it in detail. There is a "Simultaneous Usage
Facility Users Manual" published by IBI, which should be included
when you get Focus. This explains setting up a sink machine in
fairly good detail. If you don't have this manual call IBI in
Burlington.
