94.0. "MODIFY IN LIB$SPAWN" by TOLKIN::HOLLOCHER () Thu Jul 14 1988 17:13

    Hello,

    I have a curious problem that has stumped a bunch of people.

      I create a subprocess using LIB$SPAWN from a 3gl program.
      the subprocess enters FOCUS (no problem). Once inside
      of FOCUS user interactive screens are displayed (no problem).
      As soon as I try to carry out a MODIFY command ** KABOOM **
      I get a FOC(422) file not writable. I find this strange.
      The .FOC files reside in my own account. The Host and spawned
      processes have my UIC etc. VMS file protection is not an issue.
      Only the Subprocess is in FOCUS. I'm not using SU or any USE
      commands. Also note that I can modify the files if I am in my
      host process.

    I found the problem, I was using the HLI to access the files and
    then attempting to use the MODIFY to update the files. The host
    process had opened them, I wasn't using the SU, so therefore Kaboom.
