63.0. "TABLETALK WITH RDB" by MSBIS1::BICKFORD () Wed Apr 27 1988 10:50

I'm using FOCUS with an Rdb file and the FOCUS .MAS file contains 7 segments.

When TABLETALK is used ALL fields from the 7 segments are listed as fields
under that one .MAS. Thus the fields used as links (concatenated) are
repeated serveral times. Is there any way around this?

Is there some way that the segments could be listed then the fields within
each segment?

My suggestion would be to create an RDB view that joins the
7 Relations crossed by your link fields. When you create a .MAS
file of the RDB view, the link fields will not show up in TABLETALK.

Take a look at the DBA section in the focus manual. This allows
you to specify which fields certain users can see.

Fudge special: now that FOCUS' WINDOW facility is out in 5.2, you can
create little screens that look just like TABLETALK and pick up the
info you need via a 'front-end' then use WINDOWs to call TABLETALK.
The user will never know that they aren't in TABLETALK. you can easily
mimic TABLETALK opening filename menu in WINDOW or bypass it
altogether. The window could solicit information on 'relations' and
then build the joins, and then call TABLETALK directly, bypassing the
filename screen. Comprende? It's really pretty easy.

Can you give me some more info on the WINDOWS facility ?

This facility does not seem to be documented in the standard version
5.2 manuals. ( Or I am not able to find it out ? )
