Is there anything to the rumor that IBI may lift the restriction
of 8 character file names and 12 character field names in the
next release of FOCUS? I think these limits were a unfortunate
carryover of FOCUS's IBM roots. I asked the question of IBI when
I was working with FOCUS about 3 years back. Their response was
"don't hold your breath".
Thanks,
Wayne

I remember reading somewhere that IBI were abandoning the 12 char
fieldnames altogether in the next major release. I am not so sure
about the filenames

I heard they will expand fieldnames to 32 chars in 1989 when they
add support for the Corporate Data Dictionary.
