1.0. "Preliminaries" by FDCV03::CROWTHER (Harry - US/DIS Info Management) Thu Feb 19 1987 13:37
FOCUS is a complete "Information Control System" with
comprehensive features for entering, maintaining, retrieving, and
analyzing data. It is designed for use both by people with no formal
training in data processing and by data processing professionals who
need powerful tools for developing complete applications.
The non-procedural FOCUS language was designed to replace
traditional programming languages in most applications
programming situations. The simplicity of the command syntax in
the language stems from the fact that it uses simple English phrases.
So says the FOCUS Users Manual Release 1.0 for VAX/VMS. FOCUS,
sometimes known internally as IBI-FOCUS, is a product of Information
Builders, Inc.
This conference is established for the purpose of sharing
knowledge of IBI-FOCUS: how to use it well, to discuss IBI-FOCUS
problems and how to avoid, correct, or work around them. The
moderators believe that freely exchanged information, from this
conference, will provide a high level of support among IBI-FOCUS
users.
To manage controversy and still permit lively debate, one note
(#2) will permit discussions of the pros/cons of IBI-FOCUS versus
other 4GL (or <4GL) products. Such discussions after note #2 will
not be permitted. The balance of the conference is to be used for
teaching, explaining, demonstrating, improving, and generally
promoting the best possible use of IBI-FOCUS.
