183.0. "Alpha Pricing Comparison" by GUIDUK::MANN () Thu Jan 21 1993 23:55
Before I take this same question to the Product Manager, I wanted to
also get the opinions of those in Sales on this...
The Alpha 3000-400, desktop workstation, part number PE401-DE (with 32MB,
1.05GB disk, CD, HX, 19" color monitor) sells for $24,013.
The Alpha 3000-500, deskside workstation, part number PE501-AA (with the
same memory, disk, CD and graphics) sell for $41,563.
Are you finding that the additional 10 Specmarks, additional
Turbochannel, and larger internal storage capabilities are justifying the
$17,550 difference in cost?
Or are your customers looking to spend the dollars for 2 of the 3000-400s
instead of the 1 3000-500?
Thanks,
Art Mann

| Well, don't forget the deskside can also have TWICE the available
memory for the system. Also, the I/O for the desktop is 93MB/sec and
the deskside is 100MB/sec.
There are also other internal differences for these systems for which I
don't have my fact sheet ready.
Have you looked closely at the comparison charts in the SOC?
