| We're piloting Desktop Services in my account, and are using 800 Software.
So far so good. Your local Desktop rep should interface with them.
As far as no sales credit, that's news to me. You book the "shrink-wrapped"
software support so you get credit there. I don't know how their other
offerings (software and hardware) work, but I'd be suprised if we didn't get
credit, even if it was handled like a distributor. Again, check your local
Desktop rep.
Bob
PS - If you want, I'll dig out a contact phone number from 800 Software
when I get into the office tomorrow.

| In the western region we have all been ordered to introduce 800Software
to our accounts. We have been told there will be no sales credit given
on these sales unless there was a significant amount of software sold,
the dDEC sales rep did the majority of the work and unless it was
approved by the area VP in advance.
This may be a local decision but I suggest you check it out before you
spin your wheels .

| In the East we have experienced the same. We are to introduce 800SOFTWARE
salespeople into our accounts and told to step aside. Since our involvement
is supposedly nil, we are to receive no credit.
IMO, a mistake. Reps identifying and solving business problems for customers
should be receiving full credit. Widen the playing field rather than
narrowing it. Otherwise, you invite reps to make a value decision on what and
how to provide products and services to their clients based on metrics and not
on clients' needs.
btw - 800SOFTWARE is a wholely owned DEC subsidiary.

Does this include the 800# software support we're selling through the Desktop
organization? Or just software and other catalogue purchases? I agree that's
it's a mistake not to compensate the DEC rep, especially since we have another
channel, Desktop Direct, for software purchases.
Interestingly, I have a meeting this afternoon with the 800 Software rep to
discuss a national account agreement for my customer. I'll keep you posted.

| Bob,
Nope, not the 800# support line through Desktop services. My comments applied
only to what the company, 800-SOFTWARE, would sell into your account, ususally
shrink-wrapped PC application software.
But, 800-SOFTWARE is trying to get into the desktop services and integration
business (just like DEC's DTS).

| I had the meeting with the 800 Software rep and there's nothing new to report.
Nope, we don't get credit for software purchases though there's some discusion
regarding credit for "huge" deals. Interestingly, Desktop Direct software
orders are being sourced through 800 Software.
With the appointment of Enrico Pesatori to head our PC business, I presume
there will be some consolidation next FY.
