RE_POSTED From the Digital notesfile... The Atlanta RSS is gone as of 12/14, RIP --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Don't know if it is a delay for everyone; but for 1-800-DEC-SALE, it's a fact. 14 DEC 92, we're history. No down-size, right-size....we're out-sized......right out the door. Normally I'm not a cheerleader for management, but I must commend ours. Months ago they made a committment to us that IF our status changed they would tell us as soon as they knew. Last Tuesday they alerted us to the fact that our district would be hit. Today, they notified us that the entire district was gone, effective December 14, 1992. My first 10 years with DEC were great; the last 3+ have been the pits. I have only the best wishes for those of you who do remain and hopefullly, those of you who remain can pull DEC out of the mire. I've considered many of you my family; I'm going to miss you goofy bunch of SOBs Take care, Karen .

Does anyone one know who we call after 12/14 instead of 1-800-DEC-SALE? Regards, Jim
169.2 | The least I can do... | JMPSRV::MICKOL | Doing Nothing, Incrementally? | Tue Nov 24 1992 22:32 | 39 |
From: JMPSRV::MICKOL "Xerox Account Team, Rochester, NY" 24-NOV-1992 22:26:14.19 To: RUSSG,TOMC CC: GARYG,JERRY,MICKOL Subj: Demise of 1-800-DEC-SALE To: Russ Gullotti Tom Colatosti Cc: Gary Grant Jerry Marterella Gentlemen, I just became aware of the impending TFSO of the Remote Sales Support Group (RSS) that is part of the Colorado and Atlanta CSCs. This group provides responsive telephone sales support via 1-800-DEC-SALE to Digital sales reps and sales support specialists across the country. I don't know of anyone in the sales organization who hasn't used this resource at one time or another. I am not one to ask for help very often, but I use 1-800-DEC-SALE occasionally and they have come through for me every time. Our internal information systems today are not sufficient to do without a competent, centralized, last-resort technical support resource such as RSS. Perhaps someday when Digital focuses more on its core competencies and we streamline our business practices a good deal more, there will be no need for 1-800-DEC-SALE. With the cuts in staff and expertise we have already seen, I'm very concerned about our ability to adequately support our customers. If the RSS group is truely being eliminated, please let us know where we are to go for help. Even though Digital is moving to simplify our products and services, we still have a very complex product and service set and none of us here in the Field can be experts in them all. For the sake of our customers, please re-think this decision. Thanks for listening. Respectfully Submitted, Jim Mickol Sr. Sales Support Consultant Xerox Account Team Rochester, NY DTN 252-7106

I wonder if there is a master plan at work here or just hysterical management shooting convenient individual contributors (or organizations like RSS) for the sake of cutting short term costs. This decision to cut RSS may or may not be correct. That is not for me to decide. What is an abomination is the fact that "management" apparantly doesn't care enough to tell us how they intend to replace this absolutely necessary function. Or maybe they don't think sales reps giving customers correct information is necessary to the sucess of this company. Bob

This is ludicrous.... Just this week I called the RSS to help me decipher some cabling issues with our WANrouter and DECnis products. I'd searched sales updates, the NAC buyers guide, sales literature, the two most recent DECdirect catalogs, OPAL, etc. all morning. One call the RSS cleared it all up. With all of DEC's conflicting and in-complete information where do the powers to be expect us to go to clear up our rats nest of info? Who can I write to? Huuummmmppppphhhhhh..... Al

Apparantly there is an uproar in the field over this. Perhaps the powers that be will reconsider. Stay tuned.

My AGM just issued an announcement that the RSS is saved! Formal announcement in a few days. Somebody listened! Bob |
