167.0. "Marketing Survey for denser memory for the DEC 3000 products" by HARBOR::ZAHARCHUK () Fri Nov 20 1992 11:31
Bill Zaharchuk
Model 400 Marketing Manager
Market survey for large memory sets for the Model 400 (512MB) and Model 500
(1GB) using 16Mbit DRAMs.
The current MS15 memory SIMMS use mainly 4Mbit DRAMS for the Model 400/500
systems. I'd like people who have a require these larger memory sets for a
near-term bid, RFP, or competitive situation to send be your requirements.
If you only need 128MB in a M400 or 256MB in a M500 these are NOT for you!
You can get there with the 4Mbit parts at HALF the price! I expect that
prices would be dropping toward the end of calendar 1993 and into 1994 as
more vendors produce product.
So now through June 1993...
16Mbit DRAMS cost about 9 times the 4Mbit parts, yielding a cost curve of
2.25 times the 4Mbit SIMMS. Let's assume that we price the 16Mbit SIMMS @
twice (+/- 10%) the 4Mbit parts. (2 x $125/MB = $250/MB)
So MSxx 128MB (8 x 16MB SIMMS) list $ 32,000
MSxx 256MB (8 x 32MB SIMMS) list $ 64,000
Send me mail @ HARBOR::Zaharchuk and tell me how many you might need before
the end of June 1993. Tell me if you'd like to see memory available first in
pre-packaged systems or as add-ons.
Thanks,
Bill Z.
