| I agree with the underlying thought process which prompted the base note.
We and our customers *must* stop thinking of DEC as a hardware vendor.
I am not sure that "Digital Corp." though....the Digital in Digital
Equipment Corp is a modifier of Equipment.......
Maybe we should have an entirely new name. Many companies have changed their
names, for example:
OLD NEW
Esso Exxon
American Brands Chiquita
US Steel USX
SS Kresge Co. K Mart Corp.
What if we made DEC our legal name? Sooner or later people would forget
what it stood for.
Or, what about "SII - Systems Integration International" ? After all,
everything we sell is or can be a part of systems integration....
I am not feeling very creative right now, so I can't think of any other
suggestions....

| Well, time to voice a note of conservatism and "We don't do it that
way" in here... 8^)
EXXON means, as I understand it, absolutely NOTHING in any
language....Many of the initial names now in vogue also mean little or
nothing to anyone. I for one would be sad to see us give up a perfectly
good corporate identiy, one that we have worked long and hard at to build
and make recognised, and create a TLA* for our corporate logo and name.
* = TLA = Three letter acronym
I think our customers would be sorry to see the corp name go as well.
You would certainly create a new low in corp morale with many folks that
have long years of service with Digital Equipment Corp.
