40.0. "TFSO Information" by HAMSTR::MURPHY (Sue Murphy MKO2-2/D14 dtn:264-0723) Tue Oct 15 1991 11:50

Attached is a memo from Bob Hughes on Sales Support and DCC
involvement in TFSO. Digital Today also has information on
this subject. This information is provided to respond to a
request I received from an individual via E-Mail which I
am happy to do for anyone else that feels information needed
by the field is missing and should appear in this Vaxnotes
    conference.

Subject: SALES/SALES SUPPORT/DCC TFSO PROCESS UPDATE

Yesterday, as a consequence of our workforce planning effort, we began to
implement the TFSO process within the Sales organization and within
non-technical job categories in Sales Support and the DCCs. I know that
this is a difficult task, but it is one of the necessary steps we must
take to ensure continued profitable growth in the U.S.

While our affordability model affects all functions in the U.S. Sales,
Sales Support and DCC organizations, we must continue to take care to
implement the TFSO process in a way which protects key technical skills
which are currently required in the Corporation. Accordingly, we are
implementing our workforce planning process in two parts.

Part I, beginning October 7, involves the notification of Sales, Sales
Support and DCC employees in non-technical job categories whose work can
no longer be supported within our cost model. The last day worked for
these employees will be Friday, October 11.

Part II, involving impacted Sales Support/DCC employees in technical job
categories (Job Code Series 5200) will result in their transfer into an
Employee Resource Center (ERC) cost center. This transfer will take
place on October 14, 1991, and will provide a four week opportunity for
these employees to engage in an internal job search. The TFSO process
will be implemented for any employee who has not been offered and
accepted a position within the four week period.

I know that this effort has been difficult and complex, but I believe it
is the correct approach to assuring profitable growth within the U.S.
while maintaining key technical skills needed in other parts of Digital.
I'd like to extend my thanks to all our employees for the professionalism
demonstrated throughout this process.
