19.0. "Sales flash articles for customers?" by MADWT::WATSON () Tue Jun 04 1991 12:34

	Most of the accounts that I call on have some form of X.400 (or other)

electronic mail. I try to keep in contact with them via E-mail because

its cheaper, faster, and more effective than paper mail. I use electronic

FAX for those non E-Mail sites.

	The SUN guys have a SUN Flash that they E-Mail out to the customers

who (unfortunately) like it a lot. I need to be able to counter this.

	I try to send out a workstation newsletter once in a while but it

is difficult because most of the E-mail that we get is "internal use only"

and cannot be forwarded to customers.

	How about being able to pull customer update articles out of ACCESS

like we can Sales Update?

	Does anybody think that this is a good idea?

    I think this is a great idea. As I meet a new contact, I always ask
    for his/her e-mail address and send a "Thanks and Test" message when I
    get back to a terminal. I have been trying to put togther a
    "newsletter" for my Army Lab customer base, but most of the info I see
    is marked "Internal".

	There is a Customer Update that is the Sales Update with all the
	internal stuff removed. You can place your customers on the mailing
	list so they receive all sorts of good stuff; more than you would
	want to FAX.

19.4Customer Update under ACCESSUNTO::WARDWed Jun 05 1991 12:0213
   The US Sales IS group has a development project starting this month to
   put Customer Update online under ACCESS. You will be able to search for
   Customer Update articles (in the exact same way you search Sales Update)
   and mail them to yourself to 1) print out for customers or 2) forward
   electronically for customers.

   We expect to have Customer Update online by mid-summer; I'll post the
   release date as soon as our project plan is finalized. Meanwhile, if you
   have any ideas for features, let us know (here) -- we'd appreciate the
   input.

>> We expect to have Customer Update online by mid-summer

Great news!

I've been creating my own bi-monthly Customer Update, since the "official"
version is just a sanitized version of Sales Update. I handle Insurance in
NYC, and the vast majority of the content in CU is irrelevant to my customer.
So what I do is extract the SU articles I need, sanitize them for customer
consumption, and have my secretary create an attractive package. (Now, if we
could get her a workstation with DECwrite, we'd REALLY be cookin'). I also
include a "FOCUS ON:" section, which highlights a product, technology, etc.
that tracks with my account plan (eg NAS or CDA). There are some excellent
articles and white papers in VTX for this. The latest issue of my CU
highlights ACE.

Anything that can be done to simplify this process would be much appreciated.

19.6User Friendly or Hardly UsedCTOAVX::CARSONFri Jun 14 1991 19:0217
    In reply to 19.4 ... any suggestions?

    Yes, I find it very cumbersome to create customer "tailored" documents
    from our online systems like VTX.

    Having Customer Update online and the ability to search is terrific! I
    won't use it for customer mailings until we can avoid re-keying or I
    know (am taught) how to do so.

    Once that is accomplished I would then like to be able to use the X.400
    mail feature direct to my customers as was mentioned in previous notes.

    The key is making it easy for the rep to accomplish these all those
    steps in a VERY user friendly way... most of us never see the $prompt
    anymore.
