150.0. "DEC FTSIE for ULTRIX questions" by COPCLU::GREG (Greg Parker @DMO, DEC Denmark, DTN 857-2454) Mon Nov 02 1992 14:09
Hello,
I have a few FTSIE for ULTRIX questions...
FTSIE will hopefully be used to transfer files between a
SIEMENS system running BS2000 v9.5, FT-BS2000 v3.0 (v4.0b
is available), DCAM v9.9, and a 9632 Ethernet controller,
to a new DEC/ULTRIX system, over the Ethernet. We are
replacing the SIEMENS system, but need coexistence for a
period.
Question 1:
Is the XTI and OSI Transport for ULTRIX required, or can
it be replaced by DECnet/OSI for ULTRIX?
Question 2:
Does the customer need to buy additional SIEMENS products
in order to have the required components on the SIEMENS
system.
Question 3:
Where can I obtain prices for the FTSIE products (not in
danish price book)?
Question 4:
How much time should we allocate for installation?
Question 5:
How should we service the product here in Denmark.
Best regards
Greg Parker, Network Sales Support/Denmark

| Hi Greg,
> Question 1:
> Is the XTI and OSI Transport for ULTRIX required, or can
> it be replaced by DECnet/OSI for ULTRIX?
DEC FTSIE was initially planned to support DECnet/OSI for Ultrix V5.0.
However as V5.0 only supported LAN's the decison was made to provide an
interim solution based on OSIXTI and X.25 Access for Ultrix product set.
A DEC FTSIE for OpenVMS V2.0 is planned for Q2 93 which will replace V1.0
and will make DECnet/OSI for Ultrix V5.1 a pre-requisite.
> Question 2:
> Does the customer need to buy additional SIEMENS products

> system.
No. Basically the DEC FTSIE product set emulate the FT-BS2000/FT-Sinix
protocol stack.
> Question 3:
> Where can I obtain prices for the FTSIE products (not in
> danish price book)?
Please ask Ulrike Goetz @UFT (she still is/[used to be] the product manager)
> Question 4:
> How much time should we allocate for installation?
We always tend to sell 2 days consultancy and installation service when we sell
FTSIE. The answer depends on the configuration.
> Question 5:
> How should we service the product here in Denmark.
This is basically a local issue, but again something that you should raise with
Ulrike Goetz.
If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask.
regards
John
