Although there is already a topic about this (38.0) without reply I'd like to post this again. We have been asked by a customer if there is a online or offline (via Magtape) connection possible between the above mentioned printer types and VAX-VMS systems. Has anybody any experience about this or does anybody know a third party solution?

I just happen to have on the phone with me, a good buddy who works for Siemens, on these very printers. He says what this customer needs is a "Spur" box, which is a device manufactured by Spur Technologies in El Segundo, CA. They manufacture devices which interface Siemens printers with non-IBM systems, by emulating an IBM host on the printer end. He says that he has seen some of his printers connected to VAX's. I also hear rumors that we (Digital) may be OEM'ing one or more of these Siemens printers, so DEC may have or be working on a similar interface. Dan. |
